About:

Conceived in 2023 and as a result of a lifelong love of gardening, Michael and Wife Thelma are embarking on a mission to give support, conversation and hope to people through the adaptive use of gardening. With over 30 years of gardening experience, and one grade school science fair competition, Michael finally understands that he doesn’t know much about gardening. He is willing to talk with anyone about what he doesn’t know and maybe, together, come to a useful suggestion. If it doesn’t work we can keep trying next year…

In the 1940s dedicated Americans were able to offset food needs by upwards of 40% through the use of “Victory Gardens.” Even Eleanor Roosevelt promoted the usefulness of these gardens in the support of the war effort. Today, fortunately, we are not at war, but we are still dealing with change and uncertainty. Better to be prepared, have a healthy alternative to purchasing food, get some exercise, and share what we have with others!

New Victory Gardens can:

1. Be created in any space that gets at least 6 hours of sunlight.

2. Be different each and every year.

3. Grow whatever will grow successfully in your area. Don’t worry, we will help you determine what to grow!

4. Provide the smallest (like a salad a week) to the largest (provide all your food) amount of food.

5. Give a sense of independence.

6. Help alleviate stress and anxiety.

7. Be a conversation topic that you share with others.
